The Mommy Artist in Me

This week's specs:

Challenge #24

Pick a day this week and tell us about it using your camera.

Rules:
1.) Submit as many or as few photos as you'd like.
2.) B/W or Colour
3.) please no tweaking
4.) Photos due Sat. July 18, 2009

This challenge is about telling a story, finding a way to narrate through pictures. You don't have to narrate your whole day, you can pick just a portion of it if you'd like. Have fun!

I decided to narrate my life as an artist and as a mother. You may notice some similarities!!
I also chose to do the whole challenge in B/W- partly because 1) the light that I had today was terrible (we're a bit rainy here), 2) I felt it would tie the photos together, and 3) I honestly see many photographic situations in black and white, and am just more comfortable with it!

Wow! That is a busy day! I especially like your 9th photo of your painting with the paint dripping off. The focus is not right up front, but far away and that made it very interesting. I also like the picture of your handsome boy smiling after his yummy food! That was an unbelieveably happy moment for him and you caught it! Great shots!

Hey! Very strong entry this week! I love the black and white. It looks great with the pictures. My favorite 2 are 4 and 10. Four has so much interesting texture and I love the sparkles. I can't explain why I'm so drawn to 10...I just am. I love all of the Josiah pics, but I must say that my least favorite is the far away one of him. He's just too cute to be far away!

Hi Em! I am FINALLY getting around to commenting on last week's photos. Just in time to start this week's round of comments!

I think this is the strongest set I've seen of yours for a while. I really really love just about all the images you picked and how they worked together. You could have decided to do just close up work, but instead mixed it up by having a combination of different kinds of shots. That was a really strong choice. I think it adds to the viewer's first impression to get a close up look and then a far away view that adds more context.

I do find the painting photos more interesting then the baby pictures, but I think that's just a personal thing. Compositionally most of them are equally strong.

My least favorite pic is the one of Josiah far away. I can see that you were trying to create a bridge between the J man and the painting, but I don't think this was as successful as it could have been. Perhaps if you somehow included yourself in the shot with the painting and the baby? I think maybe what bothers me is that the upper part of the image is so contrasty and then josiah gets lost...there are so many great textures in half the image, but the carpet sort of kills the movement and texture of the wood.

I agree with Erica, the smily photo is so great! I love those kinds of images. That's a keeper for sure!

3,4,9,10 are my favorites! Love the textures! and I really like the shallow focus on #10
